Muscle Activation Techniques London

Muscle Activation Techniques - What is it?

MAT is a form of manual therapy that looks at muscle tightness as a form of protection in the body. Weak or inhibited muscles can create the need for other muscles to tighten up in order to help stabilise the joints.

MAT gets to the root of pain and injury by addressing muscle weakness (the cause) rather than muscle tightness (the symptom). Results can include, increased range of motion, strength and control of joints, decreased pain and an improved environment for healing.

MAT - What can it help?

  • Muscular tightness
  • Muscular weakness
  • Joint instability
  • Joint irritation / inflammation
  • Loss of mobility
  • Post surgical recovery
  • Impaired performance
  • Repetitive strains
  • Chronic Aches
  • Fatigue

The symptoms above indicate muscular compensations. Through systematic assessment, and hands-on treatment, MAT corrects these muscular imbalances and can bring relief from recurring or chronic pain.

Muscle Activation Techniques - What To Expect

MAT relies on 4 key pillars during treatment: joint range of motion; manual muscle testing; precise palpations; and isometrics. MAT works to increase the stability and mobility of the joints by restoring the proprioceptive sensitivity of the muscle spindles within the muscles being treated

The body is a highly integrated structure - not a series of unrelated parts, so the location of your pain may not be the location of the cause. Our in depth joint-by-joint biomechanical assessment will locate the causes, rather than simply looking for and treating symptoms.
